The 2012 Electra Business of the Year for Kapiti and Horowhenua is Mitre 10 MEGA in Kapiti.
The annual awards were announced at a dinner event in the Levin Events Centre, on Friday 12th October.
The winning store, locally owned and operated by Tricia and Vince Indo, opened in March last year.
The judges say in all of the assessment processes, this company rated very high, especially compared against other benchmarks and rated number one for customer satisfaction. The owners and team have demonstrated great organisational and business skills while contributing significantly to the retail environment in Kapiti.
As well as receiving the supreme accolade, the store won three of this year’s award categories: Staff Development, Marketing & Image Building and High Growth.
Highly commended was Kitchen Creators Kapiti Coast, owned and operated by Craig Wattam and Pat Thomson. The company has branches in New Plymouth and Tauranga. It won this year’s Operational Capability and Health & Safety categories. The judges mention that in moving into a new building this year, Kitchen Creators has taken the opportunity to put in excellent business and operational systems to deliver quality products that meet customer demands in an increasingly competitive market.
Emerging Business of the Year is Aura Redeye in the Otaki Gorge and with a branch in Wellington. It also received the New Thinking category award.
Small Business of the Year is Peter Jackson Plumbing of Paraparaumu.
Luxury bed and breakfast and spa, Vista Del Sol in Te Horo took away the Sustainability and Regional Branding & Promotion categories.
The Kapiti Horowhenua Electra Business Awards began in 1993 and each business is individually visited and assessed against a rigorous set of business success factors. The assessors then present their findings for testing to a panel of judges.
