The completion of the new Let’s Go streetscape on Pendarves Street is being celebrated with a planting party.

Tomorrow (Saturday) the street’s residents and Mayor Harry Duynhoven will join students and staff from Central School to plant more than 3,000 grasses, shrubs and trees to help finish the street upgrade which started in June.

“It’s great for the residents and school users to be hands-on in reshaping their own street,” says the Mayor.

“They helped design the new streetscape, which emphasises use by pedestrians rather than cars, and now they’ll help beautify it before it opens for public use.”

The road will reopen after the planting; however, road marking and some patterning on the raised thresholds will be completed later.

The new streetscape between Liardet and Gover streets has traffic-calming features – such as chicanes and raised thresholds – a double-sized curved footpath on one side, bike racks, seats and fewer all-day on-street car parking spaces.

Let’s Go and the school will continue to encourage parents who drive to park away from Central School at specially located ‘park and walk’ zones on nearby streets.
