Silver Ferns beat England in Quad-Series
The New Zealand Silver Ferns have won their second game of the 2012 Holden Netball Quad-Series with a 61-43 victory over England at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre on Wednesday.
The Silver Ferns opted for the same starting seven from their opening win against South Africa in Adelaide on Sunday while England made just the one change with Layla Guscoth starting at goal defence for Ama Agbeze.
New Zealand made a quick start, scoring four unanswered goals on the way to a 13-5 quarter-time lead before extending their eight-goal advantage to nine at half-time with goal attack Maria Tutaia netting a perfect 16/16 in the first-half.
England fought back after the main break to win the third quarter by one as shooter Jo Harten found her range in the goal circle to score 12 goals of 13 attempts while goal attack Pamela Cookey added four of her own.
Substitute Irene van Dyk, along with Tutaia, who finished with just one miss from 32 attempts, put the result beyond doubt in the fourth quarter with a faultless 14 from 14 to see the Silver Ferns home by 18 goals.
New Zealand’s Maria Tutaia was named MVP.
