After the successful auction of three retired row boats, comes the celebration!

Brooklands Zoo is hosting a family day from 11am to 2pm this Sunday (21 October). There will be free ice-blocks and $2 coffees, and 100 passes for free row-boating on Pukekura Park’s main lake.

The day is being funded by the auction of three of the park’s iconic wooden clinker boats, which were too damaged to repair, for $2,765.

“We got much more than we anticipated from the auction and we’ve been considering options for what to do with the proceeds,” says Mayor Harry Duynhoven.

“Because the boats have given so much entertainment to generations of children, we decided give the funds back to families by putting on a fun afternoon at the zoo.”

If the event is rained out a postponement notice will be posted on the Facebook pages of Brooklands Zoo and New Plymouth District Council.
