A new railway crossing in Tawa will be officially opened this Saturday afternoon, making it safer for walkers and cyclists to get around the town.

The crossing has been developed as part of the Tawa shared path project which will develop a 5km pathway from Willowbank Park to Kenepuru Railway Station. Part of the path from Redwood Station to Linden Park has been completed and is already popular with local residents.

The railway crossing will connect Tawa College, Tawa Pool and local shops to the pathway and will make it easier and safer for children and local residents to walk and cycle in the area.

The crossing will be officially opened by Mayor Celia Wade-Brown, the Tawa Community Board and the Tawa Porirura Stream Walkway Committee at 1pm on Saturday.

If you haven't seen the new path it's a great opportunity to come along and try it out for yourself.
