New Plymouth District Council has extended the contract of Chief Executive Barbara McKerrow.

Mrs McKerrow has been appointed for a further two years, extending her term as Chief Executive to April 2015.

Mayor Harry Duynhoven says the two-year term was at Mrs McKerrow’s request.

“Under the Local Government Act a Chief Executive is appointed for a fixed term of five years and can choose a two-year extension after the first term, which is what Barbara has requested,” says the Mayor.

“We are happy to retain Barbara as CE. A performance review has shown she has had a very positive effect on the Council, and she has the right mix of skills and attributes that we consider are necessary for the future.

“The Council also congratulated Barbara for the work she has undertaken in the past year, especially for the leadership she has shown.”

Mrs McKerrow’s total salary package for 2012/13 will rise by two percent, from $338,877 to $345, 654 (which includes a vehicle).
