Wilful Damage

At about 1010hrs today a man entered the BNZ bank at Whangamata armed with an Axe.

He threatened the staff at the bank and then started smashing up the interior of the bank with the Axe.

There were no customers in the bank at the time.

The BNZ staff were not hurt during the incident but are very upset and shaken. They are being provided with the necessary support from victim support and the BNZ.

Local Police attended the scene very quickly and arrested the man without further incident.
