Third Quake Meeting for Inner City Building Owners

Strong interest from inner city building owners has prompted the Inner City Association, Wellington City Council and Body Corporates Chairs Group to host a third public meeting on earthquake-strengthening issues.

Previous meetings organised by the organisations have attracted hundreds of people, anxious to discuss issues around earthquake strengthening.

Councillor Iona Pannett, the City Council's Built Environment Portfolio Leader, says there was a strong call at the last two meetings for more information and answers for building owners about financial issues and this latest meeting is in response to that call.

The next meeting will feature representatives from Aon New Zealand and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment who will discuss a range of finance issues affecting property owners who are considering strengthening their buildings.  The meeting details are:

Date:      Tuesday 6 November
Time:     5.45pm for 6pm start.  The meeting will conclude at 7.30 pm
Venue:   CQ Hotel, 213-223 Cuba Street

Speakers include:

• Simone Naylor, AON (Insurance brokers).  Simone will discuss issues around the New Zealand and international insurance market and new products now available.

• Troy Churton, Building and Housing Group, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.  Troy will cover issues around the legislative requirements for insurance.

 

Senior Council staff will be at the meeting to answer any questions.

"Building and apartment owners are very concerned about increasingly unaffordable insurance premiums and are seeking information on the insurance sector and Government thinking on these issues," says Inner City Association spokesman Gus Charteris.

Further meetings will be planned by the organisations involved when there is demand from property owners for these and in light of public interest in the Royal Commission on the Canterbury Earthquakes report which will be released later this year.
