Man in critical condition after hit and run

A man is in a critical condition in Auckland hospital, the victim of a hit and run crash on Lake Road, Northcote just after 3.00am.

A car seen leaving the scene is described as a silver station wagon.

The vehicle which was travelling towards Takapuna on Lake Road when it struck the man, a pedestrian, will have sustained frontal damage.

Traffic is being diverted around Greenslade Crescent and the section of Lake Road between each end of the crescent is expected to be closed until daylight to allow a full examination.

Police are seeking witnesses to the incident and also wish to speak to the driver of the car.
