Woman dead after car vs truck

A section of SH1 at Atiamuri was closed this morning as emergency services processed and cleared the scene of a fatal crash.

Early indications are that a northbound car crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a truck and trailer unit just after midnight.

The woman driver and sole occupant of the car was killed instantly, the truck driver was not injured.

Diversions are in place using Tirohanga and Ongaroto (SH30) Roads. The road is expected to be able to be reopened by 0430 hrs.
