As the festive season fast approaches the Christmas Spirit is already alive and well in the Lakes District.

Rehearsals began this week for this year’s Shotover Jet Christmas Spectacular and show producer Jan Maxwell says the name is well warranted.

“It truly is spectacular entertainment with over 150 local singers and dancers taking to the stage,” she said.

“That makes it the largest showcase of local talent on the annual event calendar and as it’s a family favourite we’re expecting tickets to sell quickly.”

The show will commence at 4.00pm at the Queenstown Events Centre on Sunday 2 December 2012, and see close to 100 dancers performing along with an ensemble cast of 35 and the now famous Remarkable Men’s Ballet Company who this year will debut a new work entitled “Swamp Lake”.

The show was being directed for the third time by local theatre stalwart Simon Green who faces a busy few months having also just been appointed Events Facilitator for the Queenstown Lakes District Council.

Mr Green was excited about bringing the show to the stage.

“It was great fun getting everyone together on Monday for the first sing through, “he said.  “We’re looking forward to adding all the layers as rehearsals progress”.

He said this year’s show would have a real, fun energy from start to finish.

“We’ve got everything from traditional carols to some quirky Christmas tunes and the latest chart topping hits. It’s an up tempo show this year that I am sure will see kids of all ages up on their feet and dancing and singing along.”

The Shotover Jet Christmas Spectacular has become the catalyst for a host of yuletide events in the Wakatipu which now includes the Shotover Jet Local’s Day on November 17th, the Remarkables Park Christmas Family Fun Day on November 24th and the HOAMZ Wishing Trees which will be in place at ASB Remarkables Park Town Centre, Queenstown Events Centre and the HOAMZ sales office from November 19th through to December 1st.

New this year is the MORE FM Spirit of Christmas Promotion which will see up to 30 local stores decorating and displaying a themed Christmas tree in-store and contributing to a $6,000 shopping spree for one lucky winner.  And ASB Remarkables Park Town Centre will be offering free Santa photos from December 15th to 24th.

The Shotover Jet Christmas Spectacular is produced by Queenstown Lakes District Council.

Tickets go on sale on November 2, 2012 at Ticketek at Queenstown Events Centre, i-site Queenstown and online at www.ticketek.co.nz.
