The eastern side of Fitzroy’s Peringa Park is to be opened up with the removal of 30 banksia trees.

District Arborist Conrad Pattison says the trees are in decline, and their removal was identified in the recently adopted Sportsground Management Plan.

“There is native vegetation beneath and behind these trees. Once the trees are removed that vegetation will get more chance to grow and fill in this part of the park,” says Mr Pattison.

The removals will start tomorrow (Tuesday), weather permitting. Public access will not be affected while the work takes place.
