Two sections of the Coastal Walkway’s sea wall will be repaired as part of routine maintenance from Wednesday (14 November) next week.

Heavy machinery will place boulders weighing up to one tonne along the stretches in front of the Belt Road Motorcamp and the Wind Wand.

Manager Parks Mark Bruhn says boulders have shifted due to wave action, altering the shape of the sea wall.

“It’s a normal process within a marine environment: There is a lot of energy in the waves and they smooth out and shift the boulders,” he says.

“This maintenance work will bring the sea wall back to its optimal shape to dissipate the energy of the waves, even during storms, so that damage is minimised.”

The work includes injecting concrete into small cavities under the path in front of the motorcamp.

The walkway in these two locations will remain open during the two-week project but the path’s width will be reduced temporarily.

“We ask all users to slow down and take particular care when they pass the work areas,” says Mr Bruhn.
