The New Zealand Grommet Series caters for the best junior surfers in New Zealand and travels to five locations throughout New Zealand. The series has Under 16, 14 and 12 divisions for both boys and girls.

Kennings claimed the title at the final event of the year held at Gisborne less than two weeks ago.  He went into the event in second place but took the win to surpass Piha surfer Elliot Paerata – Reid.

Kennings was one of six divisional champions for 2012.
