Hi from Jacquelyn Jamieson (nee Ludlam) the originator of this “Gardens to Visit” Website. I am a Stratford Taranaki girl, who caught my passion for gardening from my father Jack Ludlam. All 5 generations of the New Zealand Ludlam's worked with the land and fed their families from extensive vegetable patches. I still can’t look at broad beans!



As a hairdresser who trained in Christchurch I was taught the elements of design and how to turn something ordinary into something quite spectacular. It was only a small step to transfer these principles into the world of gardens and landscaping.



In Auckland I turned a sloping windswept 1.5 acres on Point View Drive into the well known “Valeside” with rock features, paths, subtropical's, a fernery, banks of succulents, orchids and specimen trees.



This property has now been sold and I am currently re-establishing my garden in pots & tubs in Howick.



Gardenstovisit is the result of many requests from fellow gardeners to have an internet site where like minded people can present their properties, visit and share their expertise. We all enjoy getting tips on how to do things better and become more successful.

This is particularly true of people with a strong family history of gardening such as mine.

Gardeners are well known for their passion & ability to share.



Gardens to Visit now has 100 plus gardens listed internationally with many owners having visitors from overseas as well as local garden clubs & individuals.

Gardens are like art, all different, what appeals to 1 group may not appeal to others. At the end of the day the public are our judges.

We all have the opportunity to meet many interesting people and show them the results of our efforts as well as learning many tips ourselves.



New gardens wishing to come on site are either recommended or visited by one of my representatives.

I have thoroughly enjoyed establishing and running this Website. It is constantly changing, while some gardens drop off, I am constantly adding new gardens. We have a page ranking of 5 which is on a scale of 1-10 and 7000 plus visits a month.
