The Pharmacy Council of New Zealand is established under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (HPCAA) and has a duty to protect the public and promote good pharmacist practice. The Pharmacy Council is responsible for registration of pharmacists, the setting of standards for pharmacists' education, scopes of practice and conduct. Pharmacists are not disciplined by the Pharmacy Council - this function is carried out by the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal (HPDT).
