A win against top teams in an international competition is a very positive way for Christchurch’s Rangi Ruru’s polo players to finish the first half of their polo season.

The A Grade win in Sefton earlier this month at the International SUPA (Schools and Universities Polo Association) Competition was an excellent achievement says Pippa Young, Rangi’s teacher in charge of Equestrian.

“The four girls (Sophie Abbott Yr 13, Sophie Black Yr 13, Victoria Butterick Yr 13 and Georgia Burrow Yr 12) have worked extremely hard over the last year and beyond,” she says. “Interestingly in New Zealand, girls and boys play on an equal footing whereas overseas they do not.”

“We are fortunate to have such professional and experienced support and tutelage from Roddy and Charlie Woods at Sefton,” Pippa says.

The teams will reconvene at a training tournament in Sefton in February followed by a competition tournament in March 2013.
