ONE BILLION RISING - global uprising
One Billion rising - UN statics revel that ONE BILLION females will be rapped and abused in her lifetime. - One Billion Women Violated Is An Atrocity.
This shocking statics has galvanised a movement - a global call has gone out for women and men to rise up and dance – to say NO MORE violence towards women
Eve Ensler – creator of the Vagina monologues put out the call after being outraged at the brutal rape and death of a young woman in India recently – the shooting in the head of a young girl simply for wanting to go to school also galvanised a movement - both these events shocked the world - and now - women and men are rising
These two events are like falling domino’s – spotlighting the plight of females all around the world
here in Nelson there have been two brutal rapes and one attempt all within the space of two months- how many in your area - and women are still the high end of the statics in domenstic abuse
Today social media FB is abuzz with the bloody face of yet another young woman - hereself a victim of abuse – this time allegedly by police
White ribbon – pink ribbon – yellow ribbon – to many ribbons
the culture of violence needs to be seriously looked at and our police have to be above it - as it stand it seems the police are meeting abuse with abuse and that sort of violence is unacceptable from those who are supposed to uphold the law and have sworn oaths to do so - there are no excuses - they have to set an example - not the standard
One billion rising has Already taken on a life of its own with over 197 countries around the globe registering multiple events from Afghanistan to Zambia women and men are rising

"Break the Chain" Lyrics

Intro-
I raise my arms to the sky
On my knees I pray
I'm not afraid anymore
I will walk through that door
Walk, dance, rise
Walk, dance, rise
I can see a world where we all live
Safe and free from all oppression
No more rape or incest, or abuse
Women are not a possession
You've never owned me, don't even know me I'm not invisible, I'm simply wonderful I feel my heart for the first time racing I feel alive, I feel so amazing
I dance cause I love
Dance cause I dream
Dance cause I've had enough
Dance to stop the screams
Dance to break the rules
Dance to stop the pain
Dance to turn it upside down
Its time to break the chain, oh yeah
Break the Chain
Dance, rise
Dance, rise
In the middle of this madness, we will stand I know there is a better world Take your sisters & your brothers by the hand Reach out to every woman & girl
This is my body, my body's holy
No more excuses, no more abuses
We are mothers, we are teachers,
We are beautiful, beautiful creatures
I dance cause I love
Dance cause I dream
Dance cause I've had enough
Dance to stop the screams
Dance to break the rules
Dance to stop the pain
Dance to turn it upside down
It's time to break the chain, oh yeah
Break the Chain, oh yeah
Break the Chain
Dance Break Inst.
Dance, rise
Dance, rise
Sister won't you help me, sister won't you rise x4
Dance, rise
Dance, rise
Sister won't you help me, sister won't you rise x4
This is my body, my body's holy
No more excuses, no more abuses
We are mothers, we are teachers,
We are beautiful, beautiful creatures
I dance cause I love
Dance cause I dream
Dance cause I've had enough
Dance to stop the screams
Dance to break the rules
Dance to stop the pain
Dance to turn it upside down
Its time to break the chain, oh yeah
