Len Lye Centre confirmed
The controversial Len Lye Centre has been given the go-ahead after a meeting in New Plymouth last night.
Councillors voted to accept a tender for construction and approved extra $750,000 for further development to the project. The extra funds was not included in the initially $10m budget confirmed last year.
Mayor Harry Duynhoven said that when the work is completed the district will have a leading contemporary art gallery alongside the eye-catching Len Lye Centre.
The centre was on the verge of being quashed if the council didn't accept the tender.
Construction is scheduled to be finished in early 2015.
