NZSki appoints new CEO

NZSki Ltd has announced the appointment of Paul Anderson, currently General Manager of Corporate Services at Christchurch City Council (CCC), as its new CEO.

Mr Anderson, 42, will replace James Coddington who has been at the helm of NZSki for six years.

NZSki Ltd owns and operates Coronet Peak, Mt Hutt and The Remarkables ski areas in Queenstown and Canterbury.

Mr Anderson is a Cantabrian who has spent considerable time in Central Otago over the past 20 years. He and his wife will move to Queenstown and he will take up his new position in early August.

Mr Anderson has worked at Christchurch City Council for the past five and a half years, most recently managing the funding strategies for earthquake response and recovery. He has also been tasked with improving the council's performance focus, increased staff engagement and was a founding member of the Local Government Funding Agency in 2011.

A keen skier and outdoor enthusiast, he is a Chartered Accountant who in the past has held finance and operational roles with large corporate and government organisations including Telecom New Zealand, NatWest GFM (London) and the NZ Treasury.

Mr Anderson said he was “hugely excited” about the opportunity to work with the team at NZSki in a field he was passionate about.

“I'm impressed with the huge investment the company has made as well as their ongoing focus on creating a superb experience for their customers at Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt,” he said.

“I have a lot of passion for the ski industry, because apart from my personal love of skiing, the industry is one of New Zealand’s most important attractions for domestic and international tourism.

"NZSki is a company that understands its role in the industry and its significance to the New Zealand economy.”

NZSki board chairman John Davies said he was looking forward to formally welcoming Mr Anderson.

“We’re thrilled to welcome someone of Paul’s calibre and aptitude to lead NZSki,” he said.

“He has an excellent track record and seasoned experience in corporate management, finance and staff engagement, which combined with his personal love of skiing makes him an ideal person to lead the development of The Remarkables ski area and our organisation as a whole.

Queenstown’s Coronet Peak is scheduled to open for the 2013 winter season on June 8, Canterbury’s Mt Hutt on June 15 and The Remarkables on June 22.
