Strong winds cause problems in Taranaki
Parts of Taranaki are without power this evening after strong winds have battered the region.
Gale forced winds rising up to 100 kilometres per hour have caused roofs to lift and trees and power lines to topple.
Lines company PowerCo have reported numerous outages around the region, with most places are not expected to be restored until later this evening.
Fire brigades from around the New Plymouth district have been inundated by weather related calls.
Flights in and out of New Plymouth airport have been cancelled for the night.
