The team at Cromwell’s Highlands Motorsport Park is chuffed that the circuit is now being used, virtually, in Red Bull Racing’s simulator by young drivers that have access to the team’s facility.

Red Bull Technology simulator systems development leader Dr Mark Williams, son of well-known New Zealand Porsche driver ‘Racing Ray’ Williams, was recently asked to create a model of the 4.1 kilometre Highlands circuit for their simulator in order for young drivers to learn it ahead of competing in the third round of the Toyota Racing Series at the nine-month-old circuit in Cromwell, Otago.

“It’s quite something, for Highlands to be one of the many world-class circuits modelled on the Red Bull Racing simulator,” says Melanie Kees, marketing and events manager at Highlands. “Of course we were delighted to assist with all relevant electronic files and footage from November’s Highlands 101 event to assist Dr Williams create the level of detail required for the simulator model.”

Williams’ notes highlighted that fact that the change in elevation and camber in certain sections of the Highlands circuit will create some very challenging sight lines for the 23-strong field of drivers in this year’s Toyota Racing Series.

Kees adds: “We’re rapt to hear 23 of some of the best young racers from around the world and up-and-coming Kiwi stars will be racing at Highlands over the weekend of 25 and 26 January. With three Toyota races, plus a full card of V8 racing from the BNT V8 SuperTourers, UDC V8 Utes and Autosure Central Muscle Cars, our January event is going to be massive.”

Tickets are now available for the 25-26 January event from the Highlands Motorsport Park office (EFTPOS and credit card only) or online from www.ticketdirect.co.nz.
