Beyond The Garden

Beyond the Garden is the next art exhibition at Terrace Downs Resort, showcasing a collection of beautifully intricate floral paintings created by Amber Emm.

Amber, a full time artist since 1998, became a qualified signwriter back in the days when brushes and paint were used to freehand designs, setting her up with excellent brush skills and a superb eye for detail.

Starting with watercolours then moving on to using acrylics, Amber now works with oils, producing an easily recognised signature style of highly detailed realism and strong contrasting lights.

Handmade and printed etchings are Amber’s forte and she revels in each medium, challenging herself further with every new painting to create that “so real you could almost touch” factor. As well as painting for Galleries, Amber also teaches adults painting at Auckland’s Kumeu Art Centre.

Terrace Downs Art Director Rachael Inch believes this exhibition will appeal to a lot of people, regardless of whether they’re a gardener or not.

“This exhibition collection is really quite something, taking you on a journey beyond the garden into the world of nature’s beauty,” she said.

“Magnified petals of gentle rhododendrons take the spotlight alongside glowing garden hydrangeas and delicate orchids; a bunch of soft pastel gerberas compliment the brilliance of the larger than life pink peonies. The collection will entice all lovers of beauty and flowers alike. While the subjects are often traditional flowers, they are painted with a contemporary look.”

The Exhibition opens Thursday 26thJune at 6:30pm to be seated by 7pm. Tickets for the opening night are $35per person which includes a set three-course meal and a complimentary beverage on arrival, the chance to meet the artist and hear about her inspirations, and the opportunity to view the collection at first hand.

Bookings for the opening night are essential. The exhibition is then free to attend during the day until 7th August during resort opening hours (please check the Terrace Downs website for changes in opening hours). Amber’s works will be available to purchase from the resort and online at
