In a report conducted by Greenpeace International and Habbo, the worlds largest virtual world for teens revealed that today’s youth are concerned more with the state of the planet than with violence, war or even drugs.

In other decades concerns of youth have been about war and violence, today it’s about climate change, the degradation of the planet. Youth are the future, it will be left up to them to help come up with clean energy solutions, a task it seems that is left for each arising generation to take over from the old. In this case, the ‘outgoing’ generation have refused to see the writing on the wall for decades, only when realising that global warming is going to have major financial repercussions to trade and business have they become active.

Its this incredible lack of foresight, and conscious awareness of the environmental impacts mining the world for resources to build our everyday world such as the digital age of computers that leaves this legacy to the worlds youth.

Greenpeace say “ The research was conducted within the virtual world, Habbo, and the total amount of respondents (after data cleaning) was 49,243. The research was conducted in November 2007. 18 countries were surveyed and statistical weighting was employed to give all participating countries an equal weight in the global results.”
