Heavy rain hits New Plymouth
Torrential rain has caused havoc in New Plymouth today with businesses shut and residential properties affected.
The BNZ branch on Devon Street has been closed as heavy rain caused the roof to collapse on the upper-floor forcing the evacuation of staff, according to local media.
The Fire Service has been directed to dozens of calls as heavy rain hit the district shortly after midday.
According to reporting website ICAD New Plymouth and New Plymouth West stations were called to 14 weather related incidents between them from 2:43pm and 3:30pm. Four New Plymouth trucks and one from the West brigade were involved assisting property owners and buisnesses clean up.
The Metservice had predicted heavy rain to fall in New Plymouth today, which has eased.
