Loud and Colourful - Annual Clan Singing Brings Out The Rangi Spirit

Ella Fitzgerald said “The only thing better than singing is more singing”.

Rangi Ruru Girls’ School will deliver this in spades with a healthy dose of fun at their annual Clan Singing competition this Friday (23 September).

Dressed in clan colours, the Rangi Ruru Clans will compete to see which group performs the best song, which is choreographed to dance moves. It is as energetic as it sounds!

This year performances will be judged by two guest judges from Christ’s College and two members of staff from Rangi Ruru.

Clan Co-ordinator and Year 13 Dean, Leigh Allan says the concept behind the clans is to form connections between year levels to foster the community spirit.

“It’s fun, colourful and very very loud!” said Ms Allan

“The clans compete in a number of different events during the year and Clan Singing is definitely one of the highlights. Girls get to show their creativity through music and they really enjoy dressing up and working together and it is a great way to celebrate the end of a very busy term,” she adds.

Clans receive points that go towards the final tally for the Clan Trophy which is awarded at the end of the year.

The Clans, led by two Year 13 leaders, are made up of girls from across Years 7 to 13. Named after Scottish castles, Balmoral, Braemar, Doune, Dunevegan, Glamis and Stirling, the Rangi Ruru Clans celebrate the school’s Presbyterian heritage.
