School Market Day Raises $1400 for Prisoners Aid and Rehabilitation
Rangi Ruru Year’s 7 and 8’s this week held their annual Market Day on the lawn of the school’s homestead, Te Koraha, raising $1400 for Christmas presents for girls their age with a mum or dad in prison.
Year 7 and 8 Dean, Rebecca Allen says the students had to make and market their goods and there was a great turn out from the community to support them. Most stalls sold out.
“The Market Day was a culmination of learning over the past term and it was a credit to the girls’ entrepreneurship and team work. They were able to share their learning with their families and their community, and do so in a meaningful way,” she says.
One of Rangi Ruru’s school key values is Generosity of Spirit and that was clearly displayed by all of the girls who worked so hard to raise this money.
The Year 8 girls bought the Christmas presents and the Year 7 girls wrapped them, and made cards.
