CHRISTCHURCH

The post-apocalyptic city will be linking up with the world’s largest zombie crowd on Sunday October 28 at 11am as part of a global community of ghouls getting their freak on to Michael Jackson’s Thriller. It’s all part of ‘Thrill the World’, a simultaneous dance for world records and charity.

This will be the third annual gathering in Cathedral Square for an global event that started in October 2006.

In case your undead groove’s a little stiff, organisers are going all-out to teach the zombie moves before the event with free dance workshops over the next week or so.

The magnificent Minifies will also be running workshops and demos to teach their miracle make-up techniques to help you find your inner zombie.

It’s all for a great cause, FoUND Festival organiser Andrea Brigden explains.

“On 'Thrill Day' we'll be passing around the hat for 'Dancing Like the Stars' - a 9-week dance programme for low decile schools, culminating in two outstanding nights of public performance at the historic Isaac Theatre Royal,” she says.

Andrea and the team are encouraging as many people as possible to gather their zombie horde at their school, workplace or club, and choose a theme for the team.

“Zombie rugby players, ballet dancers, cabin crew, wedding party…after all, who knows what you’ll be doing when the apocalypse hits? And there are some great prizes for the most creative efforts,” she says.

For thrill-seekers 14 and over, Thrill the World will be followed by the Christchurch Zombie Run, starting 2pm in Cathedral Square and wending its way around the CBD, offering prizes for a number of achievements including catching the most humans…….
