STRATFORD

A touring display developed by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) to provide information on food safety has arrived at the Stratford District Library.

The display reminds people about the 4Cs – Clean, Cook, Cover and Chill - important steps for protecting people from foodborne illness. It also offers a range of NZFSA brochures, which are available at no cost.

NZFSA is the government department that regulates the food industry but it also has a big role to play informing people about food safety at home. Its Deputy Chief Executive Sandra Daly said, “New Zealand has a high rate of foodborne illness which can have a devastating effect on people, especially vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, the very young, the frail elderly and the immuno-compromised. It’s important that people take care of themselves and their families by carrying out safe food practices.”

Stratford District Librarian Heather Taylor said, “it’s great to see displays like this reaching our community. With summer well on its way it is important to remember those food safety messages.”

The display will be at the Stratford District Library until Wednesday 13 February. More information can also be found at www.foodsafe.org.nz
