Police Busy At NZI Sevens

Pace yourself - that's the message from police to fans attending today's final day at the NZI Sevens in Wellington's Westpac Stadium.
Acting Inspector Jason Ross, commander of the police operation for the event, said by 10pm last a total of 11 people had been arrested. The offences included detoxification, disorderly behaviour, breach of the peace and theft.
Most have been officially warned by police and released without charge, but some will be facing further action.
"We've had about 40 people evicted from the Stadium, with alcohol the contributing factor," he said. "I'm reasonably pleased with the way the first day has gone. It's been a good natured crowd although the effects of alcohol were being seen by mid evening.
"The long day in the sun takes a toll. It's going to be another big day on Saturday so we're reminding people to pace themselves, drink plenty of water, have something to eat and to treat people with respect.
"Security staff did a fantastic job getting people in through the gates and checking bags for alcohol."
One fan found out that smuggling alcohol into the Stadium doesn't pay. He had hidden a bottle of bourbon in his pants, fell over and the broken glass caused a nasty cut.
