Judged against an elite list of competitors that includes some of the finest vineyards in the United States, Canada, South America and Australia, the leading winery Mud House Wines has made nearly a clean sweep of its entries in the 2008 Pacific Rim Wine Competition, winning 12 awards for the 15 wines it submitted.

The accolades include a prized Best in Show award for the 2007 Mud House Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, and gold medals for the 2007 Mud House Gisborne Pinot Gris and the 2007 Mud House Swan Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

The 2007 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is rapidly assuming superstar status, having also received a gold medal at the 2008 Royal Easter Show Awards, and been chosen by renowned chef and restaurateur Rick Stein for the wine list of his prestigious family of restaurants in Cornwall, UK.

The other Pacific Rim awards recipients from the Mud House Wines stable picked up two Best in Class awards, three gold medals, one silver and three bronze medals.

This award builds on a year of success for Mud House Wines, which received honours for three varietals at the 2007 Air New Zealand Wine Awards and took home 16 medals from the 2008 Royal Easter Show Awards. And, as at the Royal Easter Show, Mud House Wines’ winning tipples in the Pacific Rim Wine Competition comprised of a number of varietals (including Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir), produced from vineyards in several of New Zealand’s premium wine growing regions.

The winery is also basking in the international approbation of having a wine selected by a Master Sommelier for service onboard Delta Airlines, one of the world’s largest carriers.

Mud House Wines CEO Baden Ngan Kee said the 12 medals were a tremendous honour, and a validation of the hard work and skill of the Mud House Wines team.

“We have taken some important steps in the past year to develop our brand locally and internationally, and we are pleased that the quality of our wines is being recognized,” he said, pointing to the recent release of the winery’s three-tiered range, and the recruitment of several talented wine industry operators, including Chief Winemaker Ant Mackenzie, as examples for Mud House Wines’ success.

The brand’s look has also undergone a makeover, recently unveiling a sharp new label design that Mr Ngan Kee says captures the zing and spice for which Mud House Wines is receiving honours.

“We will continue to work to create even better wines, and we hope to enjoy further awards success in the future.”
