Safe and considerate shooting this duck season

'Please consider others and think safety' is the message from Police in relation to the opening of the duck shooting season today.

Police Central Communications have had 15 calls this morning from members of the public this morning concerned about inconsiderate or thoughtless use of firearms as the season opens. These calls relate to shooting near residential areas in particular.

'While most hunters are being sensible others need to stop and think about how they might be disturbing others before they start shooting' says Insp Darroch.

Police also want to remind hunters about firearms safety and being careful around boats. 'We want to avoid shooting or boating accidents this weekend,' says Insp Darroch, 'a moments inattention can have tragic consequences.'
