Search Continues For Missing Two Year Old Child
A large team of police, and specialist search and rescue personnel, are continuing the extensive search for Aisling Symes in the streets, streams, and homes near Longburn Road in Henderson. Almost 100 are involved.
The two year old child wandered off from an address in Longburn
Road at about 5.30pm last evening, Monday 5 October 2009.
Aisling is aged two years.
It is more than 18 hours since the child went missing.
Police are particularly keen to hear from an Asian female who may
have spoken to Aisling on Longburn Road at about the time she was
reportly last seen. A description of this female has been released.
Asian female,
Age - in her 30's
Height - approximately 5'5"
Medium Build
Clothing - black crewneck top, with 3/4 length sleeves,
wearing 3/4 length blue jeans, black leather sandals, black socks,
Female has long black straight hair that falls past her shoulders
The female had a black and grey medium sized dog - on a lead
She was directly behind the missing child, in this sighting at about 5.30pm
The Police Dive Team and Marine Unit is involved. They are searching the waterways in the Huruhuru Creek and Taikata Inlet. This area is commonly known as the Lincoln Stream. Other police personnel from both Hamilton and Whangarei are on standby.
The large scale ground search operation is canvassing the areas in the suburban streets in the vicinity of Longburn Road where local residents are being spoken to. Sheds, outbuildings, fence lines, or other places that a small child may explore or hide in are all being searched.
In event of the two year child not being found this afternoon a media
conference is expected to be called to provide a further update on the status of this search.

Police urge anyone who has any information of sightings of the
missing child to contact them immediately on the 0800 number.
Meanwhile the family have requested privacy and they are being
comforted and supported by relatives, friends and Victim Support.
