Child injured in Whakatane

Earlier on today at about 4.30pm, Police and Ambulance attended an accident in the Whakatane suburb of Awakeri involving a 3 year old child.

The child fell from a stationary motorbike which was static at an address. Its believed that the child grabbed the accelerator and was subsequently run over by the bike .

She has suffered a fractured right femur in her hip area and has been taken to the Whakatane hospital.

Her injuries fortunately are not life threatening.
