NZI Sevens Carnival Begins

Start off the NZI Sevens festivities by coming out at lunchtime on Thursday 4 February (12.45 - 1.30pm) to welcome the 16 international teams.
The NZI Sevens Parade will start at the Parliament end of Lambton Quay and make its way down Lambton Quay, Willis Street and Mercer Street before finishing up at Civic Square in a fanfare of music and cheer - enough to get you in the mood for the big weekend ahead.
You can put your NZI Sevens costume to the test on Friday (11.00am - 12.30pm) at the Fashion Runway. Strut your stuff down in front of the Railway Station for your chance to get snapped by The Dominion Post Fashion Police and be in to win great prizes.
If you missed out on tickets, look out for the big screens on the stadium concourse, Queens Wharf and Waitangi Park, which will be showing the action live.
There'll be plenty of fans on Courtenay Place on Saturday night for the NZI Sevens Street Party, and we're going to make sure they have enough room to enjoy themselves.
Courtenay Place, between Taranaki Street and Cambridge Terrace, will be closed to traffic from 5.00pm that evening (6 February). This closure includes buses and taxis.

To compensate for this, there'll be extended bus stops on Taranaki and Dixon streets, and temporary taxi stands on Wakefield Street between Blair and Allen streets and on Cambridge Terrace between Courtenay Place and Tennyson Street (see above).
This road closure will also make it easier for rugby fans to watch the NZI Sevens on the big screen and enjoy the music stage. Bar and restaurant owners on Courtenay Place are also likely to extend their outdoor seating areas.
The road closure will finish at 6.00am on Sunday 7 February. The liquor ban that covers public places in the central business district will stay in force over the weekend.
