BAY OF PLENTY

Rotorua police investigating the discovery of a body near Te Urewera National Park, South East of Murupara are making good progress.

Police were advised of the discovery of skeletal human remains late on sunday 18 April 2010 after they were found by a pair of hunters.

Today rotorua CIB staff, DVI trained police, and ESR personnel have been examining the body and scene and working towards recovering the remains.

The remains were located in a recently logged plantation forest about 10 kilometres from Murupara.

At this stage the identity of the remains is still unknown and it is likely that dna testing will be required to establish the identity of the deceased.

From their general appearance it appears they may have been there for some time, perhaps as long as decades.
