Court Appearance for Two Wellington Murder-Accused

Two men have appeared in the Wellington District Court this morning, jointly charged with murder, in relation to an assault in Te Aro late last year.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Miller of the Wellington CIB says overnight on the 3rd/4th of October 2009, an assault occurred in Te Aro. The 44 year old victim never regained consciousness and passed away in Wellington Hospital on the 17th of May 2010.

The men, aged 22 and 23, have been in custody since October 2009 on assault charges, which have today been upgraded to murder.

They have been granted interim name suppression until tomorrow afternoon and have been remanded in custody to reappear in the Wellington District Court on 16 August 2010.

DSS Miller says Police are unable to make any further comment on this case, given it is now before the court.
