Funding for getting Physical
The Nelson City Physical Activity Fund (NCPAF) has given $40,892 to local community sport and recreation groups in this year’s funding round.
Twenty seven organisations applied for the funding, with eighteen receiving assistance.
Formerly the Hillary Commission Community Sports Fund, The NCPAF is administered by Nelson City Council and gives small grants to groups that offer opportunities and encourage more young people into physical activity.
Funding is being used for coaching, equipment and community events that reach out to young people who would not otherwise be taking part in the activities.
Of the 18 successful applicants, two received funding under the Big Idea grant. The Big Idea was set up last year to fund larger projects that will significantly improve the opportunities for young people to access physical activities in Nelson.
Way2go received $10,000 to kick start its travelling cycle skills programme Upcycle, with the programme starting in schools next year. For further information on Upcycle check out http://www.way2go.org.nz/.
Auckland Point School also received $7,370 under the Big Idea, which will go towards the development of the school’s bike Pump Track. The Track will be available for community use outside of school hours.
