Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Alison Shanks, will be part of a stellar judging panel at the Beef + Lamb New Zealand Golden Lamb Awards (aka The Glammies) in Wanaka in March 2011.

The event, sponsored by Pfizer Animal Genetics, attracts entries from farmers and retailers across the country all vying for the Grand Champion title.

Now in its fifth year, the competition has become a highlight on farmers’ calendars as everyone tussles for the bragging rights.

Alison Shanks says she jumped at the chance to be a judge.

“What could be better, I get to taste the best of the country’s lamb and what’s more I get to do it in a beautiful part of the country,” says Shanks.

The grand final will be held at the Upper Clutha A & P Show in Wanaka on Friday 11 March 2011.

The competition is supported by processing plants across the country, including Alliance Group Ltd, Ashburton Meat Processors Ltd, Auckland Meat Processors/Wilson Hellaby, Blue Sky Meats, Cabernet Foods, Harris Meats, Land Meat New Zealand, Silver Fern Farms Ltd and Taylor Preston/Ken Wilson Meats.
