Kaituna River level lowered following accident

The Okere Gates on the Kaituna River are being closed this afternoon following an accident on the river.

New Zealand Police has asked the Bay of Plenty Regional Council to close the gates and lower the river level so that a search can be undertaken.

Rafting companies are being notified.

It is not known when normal flows will resume.
