Top New Zealand athletes, Nikki Hamblin and Sophie Pascoe, have joined the star-studded team of Beef + Lamb New Zealand Iron Maidens.

Beef + Lamb New Zealand Inc CEO, Rod Slater, says the new additions are a credit to the Iron Maiden programme.

“Lean red meat is essential for optimum performance and these two high achieving sportswomen are great role models for promoting a healthy diet, which includes lean beef and lamb,” he says.

Paralympic swimmer, Sophie Pascoe, makes no secret of the fact she wants to see greater recognition of paralympic sports and she believes one way to achieve this is through the achievement of high profile sponsorship.

“I see the partnership with Beef + Lamb New Zealand Inc as a great demonstration of support for myself and paralympic sports at a time where competitors are striving for equal recognition,” says Sophie Pascoe, who won three Golds and one Silver medal at the Beijing Paralympics.

2010 Commonwealth Silver Medallist and middle distance runner, Nikki Hamblin, who has her sights set on the 2012 Olympic Games, says diet can be a ‘game breaker’ in training and competing.

“Eating high quality lean red meat is an efficient and natural way to repair muscles and replenish energy, helping to ensure I’m at my best for my next run,” she says.

Pascoe and Hamblin join Sarah Ulmer, Caroline Meyer (nee Evers-Swindell), Georgina Earl (nee Evers-Swindell), Sarah Walker and Alison Shanks in the squad of sports ambassadors representing Beef + Lamb New Zealand Inc.

BMX rider Sarah Walker won her respective division in the UCI Supercross World Cup in the Netherlands recently.

“Thanks New Zealand Beef + Lamb for helping me train hard and recover better to win the World Cup in Holland,” she posted on Beef + Lamb New Zealand’s facebook page.
