Auckland Police have been officially advised that the trial of murder-accused Xiao Zhen will get underway in Shanghai, China, at 9.30am on August 2 in the Shanghai No, 2 Intermediate People's Court.

Zhen is accused of murdering Auckland taxi driver Hiren Mohini in the suburb of Mt Eden on January 31, 2010.

It is expected that a panel of three judges will preside over the trial. There won't be any New Zealand witnesses at it but the Police officer in charge of the New Zealand homicide investigation, Detective Senior Sergeant Hywel Jones, will attend.

The evidence presented at the trial will consist of the original witness statements and exhibits collected and collated by Auckland City Police and which were handed over to the Chinese authorities when they came to New Zealand some months ago.

The victim's family has chosen not to attend the trial.
