You probably already know that we are right in the middle of Breast Cancer Awareness Month being organized by the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF).

More than just about rasing awareness of breast cancer, the campaign this year is all about taking action and there are lots of things you can do to get involved and take action:

  • Donating to the cause either online or by phone.
  • Making a gold-coin donation in return for a pink ribbon on Friday, 14 October via an NZBCF Street Collector
  • Registering for regular mammogram screenings if over 40 years of age (visit the NZBCF website for information about FREE screenings for women aged 45-69)
  • Practicing “Breast Awareness” (i.e. knowing what looks and feels normal for your own body)
  • Joining one of the community fundraisers currently being held throughout New Zealand
  • Organising a new community fundraising event (information available on NZBCF website)
  • Purchasing a Pink product from an NZBCF supporter or sponsor (e.g. The Warehouse) and becoming “Positively Pink”
  • Signing up for the NZBCF newsletter to learn more about the breast cancer fight

And if you are feeling inspired there are some great events to participate in during the month:

  • Friday, 14 October: Pink Ribbon Street Appeal – In exchange for a gold-coin donation, Pink Army volunteers will distribute pink ribbons symbolising the battle against breast cancer.
  • Wednesday, 26 October: Dove Pink at the Pictures – Cinemas nationwide will simultaneously screen the classic film, Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
