Guilty Plea In Child Abuse Case

A male offender entered guilty pleas to two child abuse indictments when he appeared in the Auckland District Court yesterday.

The man entered guilty pleas to representative charges of neglect/cruelty of a child, and a representative charge of assault on a child. He remains on bail. Sentencing is to take place on Tuesday 20 December 2011 at the Auckland District Court.

The maximum penalty for neglect of a child is five years imprisonment, while the maximum penalty for assault on a child is two years imprisonment.

A female co-offender earlier pleaded guilty to 25 child abuse charges.

Name suppression of the two accused continues. This is to protect the identity of the children involved.

The female will be sentenced at 9.00am on Friday 25 November 2011 in the ADC.
