Firearm Discharged During Gang Altercation

The Gisborne CIB are investigating an incident which occurred at approximately 02.00am on Sunday the 6th of November 2011 where a shot was fired during an altercation between rival gang members.

The incident occurred in Cobden Street in the area of the Saint Andrews Church and followed two earlier altercations during the night.

No one was injured as a result of the incident and the firearm which was a cut down .22 rifle was located in the vicinity of the incident.

A 31 year old male has been arrested and charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm and a male and female both aged 33 years are still being sought in relation to the discharge of the firearm.

A warrant for their arrest is being sought from the courts this morning but it is believed that the pair have left the Gisborne District.
