Man arrested for 2009 sexual assault

Police arrested and charged a 43-year-old unemployed Feilding man today in regard to the sexual assault of a woman in Palmerston North in 2009.

The incident was in the early hours of 22 May, 2009 when a 22-year-old woman was attacked as she walked along Fitzherbert Avenue.

This afternoon's arrest happened without incident at an address in Palmerston North and is the result of new forensic information that has been received by Police.

He will appear in the Palmerston North District Court tomorrow charged with sexual violation. Police are opposing his bail.

As the matter is before the court Police will make no further comment in relation to the new forensic information.
