Queen Charlotte Sound - Water Rescue
On 05/01/2012 at 11:30pm Police were notified of an elderly female passenger jumping off the Santa Regina Ferry in the Queen Charlotte Sound near Ngamahu Bay.
Bluebridge Ferry staff notified emergency services and Police Search and Rescue from Blenheim coordinated the response. A broadcast was put over Marine radio for other vessels to assist. Westpac helicopter also attended.
Various vessels attended including the Arateri and Arahura Ferries; The Coastguard; Local vessels San Tourious, Captain Brucee, Sea Surveyor, MP3 and Felix.
The female was located alive on 06/01/2012 at 1:06am by staff on the Felix and subsequently taken to Wellington Hospital by helicopter for treatment.
Police would like to thank the staff on the vessels and other volunteers who assisted.
