Gus Andrée Wiltens, Barrister and Solicitor of Auckland, has been appointed a District Court Judge.

Gus Andrée Wiltens, Barrister and Solicitor of Auckland, has been appointed a District Court Judge, Attorney-General Michael Cullen announced today.

Mr Andrée Wiltens was admitted in 1977 and worked as a litigation lawyer in Morrinsville and Auckland until July 1980. He then spent eight months working for the New South Wales Law Society, ultimately as Acting Manager of the Fidelity Fund.

He was a Crown Counsel with the Prosecutor's Division of the Attorney-General's Chambers in Hong Kong from 1981 to 1988 and worked closely with the Independent Commission against Corruption in Hong Kong. Between 1988 and 1997 he was a Permanent Magistrate in Hong Kong hearing criminal trials. Mr Andrée Wiltens also sat for brief periods as an Acting District Court Judge dealing with both criminal and civil trials. He gained his LLM degree from Hong Kong University in 1994.

Since 1997 Mr Andrée Wiltens has been Assistant Director Prosecutions at the Serious Fraud Office.

Mr Andrée Wiltens will be sworn in on 9 November 2007 and will sit in Manukau.
