HAMILTON

A man who is alleged to have murdered a neighbour in the Hamilton suburb of Frankton yesterday appeared in court today and was remanded in custody to reappear next month.

Detective Sergeant Daryl Smith of the Hamilton CIB said the body of a 38-year-old man was removed from the second storey walkway of a block of flats on Wha St this afternoon.

"The body will now be taken to Auckland where a post-mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow morning. Though we are in contact with the victim's family we are yet to formally identify the victim due to him having a number of different aliases.

"A 28-year-old man who lived in the same block of flats as the victim appeared in the Hamilton District Court this morning on a charge of murder and was remanded to reappear on the 20 March."

Mr Smith said the scene examination of the flats had continued throughout the day and was expected to be completed this evening.

"While we are focused on the importance of gathering the maximum amount of forensic evidence as possible we are also conscious that the occupants of six flats in the two storey building have given up their homes to assist us with our inquiry and we are grateful for this degree of cooperation."
