Arrest following death of Jyniah Teawa

Arrest in the investigation into the death of 10 month old baby Jyniah Teawa.

Counties Manukau Police investigating the death of 10 month old baby girl Jyniah Mary Teawa have made an arrest.

Dectective Senior Sergeant Sue Schwalger, the officer in charge of the enquiry, says police have arrested a 30 yr old female for the murder Jyniah Mary Teawa.

She will be appearing at the Manukau District Court this morning.

Police began this enquiry after Jyniah was taken to Middlemore Hospital on the 23rd September 2007 and then died in Starship Hospital of a severe brain injury the following day.

'Although this has been a difficult time for the family under such circumstances, family members and others linked to this enquiry have fully co-operated and assisted the Police'.

'We have spoken to the parents of Jynaih advising them of the arrest and they have asked for privacy at this time' Dectective Sue Schwalger said.
